I'm writing an emulator for the Intel 8086 processor. It is fairly simple, but I am now having an issue that I have not been able to find an explanation for. My PC has Windows 7, and I'm running this on VirtualBox with 4GB of RAM. I tested it with a few different versions of the processor I'm emulating, so I'll just be focusing on version 1 for now.
When I perform bitwise operations on signed 16-bit values, occasionally it returns garbage data. If I run the following code:
